Sure, the city is perhaps best known for its contributions to cinema, but it’s also host to one of the most eclectic bakery scenes we’ve ever seen. From donut joints to panaderias to shops with daintily decorated cupcakes, this sprawling city has it all–and on our recent long weekend in the City of Angels, we set out to try as many spots as we could. Armed with suggestions from our friends Chris and

To anyone keeping count, the number of high-profile personalities and celebrities dying while under the care of conventional doctors and oncologists is truly staggering. Some of the more notable deaths in recent memory include actor Heath Ledger’s death following the consumption of doctor-prescribed medications, CNBC anchor Tim Russert’s death while on cardiovascular medications, and even Anna Nicole Smith’s death caused by a lethal combination of FDA-approved prescription medications.

This will probably be my last food post for a little while as I’m going on a trip! I am soooo very excited. Actually, it’s two trips that I coupled together to save airfare. First, Omnivore Boyfriend (
O.B.
) and I are headed to sunny Santa Cruz, California for a week of surfing. Surfing is my favourite sport (I’ve surfed in 3 different oceans) and I LOVE California so I really couldn’t be more ecstatic about this leg of the trip. I’m probably going to eat sandy tomato & cucumber sandwiches all week because I know there is a grocery store in town and I’m certainly not eating take-out for 7 days.

yes, these frozen treats are indeed as far away from baked as a straight-from-the-ground carrot would be.
I mean let’s face it, it’s one thing that both vegans and non-vegans have no problem agreeing on: raw cookie dough rocks. but raw vegan cookie dough is safer, thanks to the absence of eggs.
the cookies bake well too, obviously: the recipe is slightly adapted from Vegan Planet and probably my favorite, as far as chocolate chip cookies go. the fact that it’s so quick & easy to make doesn’t hurt one bit.

: je me suis réveillée fatiguée, la bouche pâteuse et le nez bouché. Pas en forme. J’ai mal dormi et en me réveillant j’étais en train de penser « eat your greens and your sprouted beans ! ». Bah oui, les acides aminés formant les protéines, quand on mange raw, on va les trouver dans les légumes verts à feuilles, les graines germées, les oléagineux. On peut aussi ajouter à cela les excellentes protéines de la

This week’s recipe is Raw Chocolate Mousse which makes a terrific summer dessert for cookouts, dinner parties, or just to enjoy at home! The recipe has only 4 simple ingredients and takes about 10 minutes to make! You may be shocked by the main ingredient: AVOCADO!! But trust us, by the time you have finished you won’t even remember you have put them in! The avocados replace the cream and oily taste normally put into mousse by milk products. It makes for a healthy and creamy vegan dessert. We know raw food can be a bit scary and avocado isn’t normally associated with desserts, but once you take one bite of this you will be pleasantly surprised and will impress your guests!

preparing the Christmas feast. It was a traditional menu for us and pretty much like the Thanksgiving repast. Sometimes the macaroni and cheese made way for mashed potatoes and gravy. I always fixed twice the potatoes we would eat so there would be leftovers for potato patties the next morning. It was a big job to prepare all the food but I was up to the challenge. Cooking was one of my hobbies, anyway. Cleaning up after wasn’t but the dirty dishes were the sign of a well-blessed table.

So I decided to go with the Raw-eo Smoothie from Gone Raw - a place where people share raw vegan recipes. Done the right way it tastes like Oreo cookies!
You would never know it by the simplicity of this LO but it took hours!!
Literally I started the “Smoothie” shadow cut 11:39 pm and it finally finished at 1:11 am (SCAL).
I’m not exactly proud of this LO but I didn’t have it in me after spending 4+ hours on the title to do anything better… sad, I know.
