I hope everyone is having an exciting Labor Day week-end. For me, this week-end always feels like the end of summer. Even though we will still have lots of hot weather, we are moving toward cooler days and Autumn, my favorite time of year.

… when i tell anyone i’m (mostly) raw vegan their first question is almost always some version of “whatever do you eat, then?” … well, this is some of what i eat … it’s yummy …
… our dinner tonight was so pretty i had to take pictures of it … seriously … made from recipes from one of my favorite books “raw food real world” … watermelon and tomato gazpacho and “blue sunset” smoothies … i only changed the recipes just a bit … basically it all looks like the pics in the book …

About 3 months ago I thought I was starting to “get old.” I had been sick for a total of 4 months, and after not getting better after 1 month, I got pretty scared. I was extremely ill and on too many medications. I was in and out of the doctors many times, with many different scary tests. One horrible doctor in the ER even said my fertility might be affected. Well I’m glad he didn’t know what he was talking about. As I finished up the 5th course of anitbiotics, still not feeling good (and that was with about 6 vicodin a day), I began looking into how I could possibly heal myself. I read about holistic healing, which led me to raw vegan food. It’s funny how I actually just defaulted to eating this food because it’s all that I could handle…

Today I felt a bit sluggish. Either the cooked food is catching up with me, or it was the fried food from last night. I did not feel “awful”, but I was less energetic than before. Maybe it was just the fried stuff? Heck, I don’t know any more.
At work we have people in from out of town, and we all went out to lunch today at one of the cafeterias on campus here. There is a salad station there that normally has at least one nice salad that fits raw really well. They didn’t today have a good option however. The best salad option they had came on top of a pizza crust with some baked on cheese and tomato slices. They called it a pizza salad. I decided to get it since it looked like it could be used like a wrap or something, with the salad on top of this small pizza crust. It was good. I think it was a Caesar dressing on there, so it was not the best salad choice, but was the best available at the time.

Having not really paid much of a price for the cooked foods I had last week, I pretty much didn’t worry too much about having some more during this week. All I did was try and keep it under control and make sure what I ate was reasonable.
At lunch today, I had a bean burrito from that local Mexican joint. They have the best tortillas and the best beans, so their bean burritos are really awesome.

I did not have time to prepare lunch for work today, and was busy at work today meaning I did not get to go out to lunch until 1:30 or so, and even then it was just down to the cafeteria to see what they had left. Well, they didn’t have anything left, but the “guest chef” (they always have one, nice little perk) was a Thai restaurant, and he was trying to pawn off what he had left. It was all cooked stuff except for the spring rolls, but even they had some rice noodles in them as part of their stuffing. I got some cooked vegetables on rice and 2 spring rolls.

I got another one of those burritos for lunch today. I must have really missed those or something because they are so enjoyable.
For dinner we went to a BBQ joint the family likes. Their salad bar is nothing to scream about, but I got it anyway. I also had some onion rings and fried mushrooms to split amongst everyone. Those are not healthy at all, but they sure tasted good!

This is so stereotypical I laugh as I write it. Fifty-year-old perimenopausal woman seeks clarity and a way past being stuck and not knowing what she wants out of life. She is thankful for her husband and family, has above-average talent and ambition, but finds herself not knowing what she wants to be when she grows up. Attracted to alternative medicine, yoga, and raw foodism, but struggles with living completely out of sync with her large family (eight kids) and traditional husband who opposes voluntary change, but mostly has never been able to answer the question of what her passions are. Kids and husband, obviously, but beyond that her life has been one of reaction to pregnancy, children’s needs, husband’s job and the results of moving to a new community every few years. Half the children are now out of the house, the rest growing independent, and there is finally time to reflect how to spend my time in a meaningful way.

Freshly juiced bunch of kale with about 1/3 of a pineapple and one red bell pepper. (This is, by far, my favorite juice combo … a veritable luau in my mouth.)
I also:
Have nothing applicable to report.
I felt:
Fine, although the weird itchies came back, but not to the degree that I suffered last night.
I noticed:
Ah, a new category since earlier reports. I couldn’t let this discovery go unnoted. I stink. Deodorant be damned. I’ve heard that this can happen, but I never thought it could happen to me. Hopefully, it fades quickly.
