Toxins & Fertility

Filed under: raw vegan — health @ 10:22 pm

We are inundated with toxins. These toxins are in our food, air, water, toiletries, and homes. Many of these toxins not only adversely affect adult health, but these
toxins can impair fertility
with negative impact on delicate male & female reproductive systems, as well as on a developing fetus. Even low levels of exposure can result in health problems and to make matters worse, many of these

For once I think I have bitten off more than I can chew!
I have agreed to take the challenge of becoming a raw vegan for the next three months. What the hell have I gotten  myself in to?
So you’re probably wondering what a raw vegan can eat. Well, as I have quickly found out, pretty much nothing!

How the Adventure Began

Filed under: raw vegan — health @ 9:22 pm

My journey here has been a long and convoluted one. I could write pages and pages of why I have suddenly decided once and for all to embrace a raw vegan diet, but you, my lovely readers, would not find my life as fascinating as I do. So, I’ll attempt to condense my story at least a bit…but it’ll still be darn long (30 years takes a bit of explaining). So, I’ll tell this story in several chapters and promise not to be quite so wordy in the future!

I must apologize. I am completely naive to blog…

Filed under: raw vegan — health @ 7:23 pm

I must apologize. I am completely naive to blog etiquette, and therefore have no clue how to start off my first blog entry….
what to say!?!?!?!? what to do!?!?!?!?
I fear I must resort to the awfully boring “hello” followed by it’s equally boring counterpart “how are you?”
Oh I do promise I won’t always be so mundane! sometimes I will greet you with a “good afternoon!” (even if it is the morning)… or If I’m feeling terribly daring it may be a “what’s NOT cooking, good looking?”…

Daily Update 4/27

Filed under: raw vegan — health @ 6:22 pm

I had today off work. I returned my (overdue) copy of the Raw Food Detox Diet to the library and on the way out saw an Asian market across the street. I decided to go in because I had heard some people on the raw forums suggest ethnic markets as a great place to get good prices on greens.
They had a large selection of greens, probably a bit more than my local grocery store, but they were pretty much all different things than I can not get in my regular store. There were only 2 similar items between the stores; cabbage and bok choy. The cabbage was probably not the same variety, and they had many different selections of bok choy compared to my normal store. They had Bok Choy, Long Bok Choy, Small Bok Choy and Baby Bok Choy. Even the regular Bok Choy looked smaller than the ones at the store. There were many other types of Choy as well besides Bok Choy. I looked up Choy and it means vegetable, so that makes sense. The Baby Bok Choy was pretty pricey at $1.99 per pound, but these things were pretty small and probably loaded with good stuff.

Well Joe had a banner day yesterday. It was his 67th birthday and calls started pouring in about 8 A.M. from friends and family wishing him well. He got calls all through his treatment and last night we celebrated and went to Baci’s (which was originally in Plainfield but moved out here 6 years ago) for a free dinner. That is what we call it when we go off raw vegan rather than cheating. Frank the owner has always treated Joe as a friend and he fussed over Joe so well last night. He made a special appetizer for us, gave us a bottle of wine, and then a sample of a pasta. We were almost full before our entrees. Karen and her boyfriend Mike joined us for the evening and we were probably there for two hours. Mike is way too polite for our family as was our daughter- in-law Tracy. He never interrrupted so he didn’t get to talk much. We even had dessert and Joe had his favorite, carrot cake. Yesterday was officially 9 months of fighting this disease even thogh Joe had it for a year before that. He continues to do well. He is a trooper about taking his heparin, his supplements and his treatments. The P.E.T. scan is Monday and results next Wednesday. His blood counts drop each week but they give him shots to bring it back up and his body is responding well. His cancer markers continue to stay the same or drop being about 50 now for the CA19-9. His spirits are good which makes it easier for me.

Join the Do Follow Movement

Filed under: raw vegan — health @ 3:22 pm

is a group of bloggers who have decided to give link backs to comments on their blogs. They have either installed the do follow plugin or manually changed the HTML of their blog to allow this to happen. Most blogs are moderated to catch the spam, so it will do you no good to spam comments. A thoughtful comment, however, will earn you a link!
Here are the directions:
1. Write a short paragraph at the beginning of your post and link back to the blog that put you on the list in the paragraph. This isn’t a suggestion; you need to break up the duplicate content. Someone took the time to add you so the least you can do is give them an extra link back.

Day 1

Filed under: raw vegan — health @ 1:23 pm

I wanted to write a little more about this cleanse, and the reasons behind my decision to embark on it.
For a few months now, my energy levels have been really erratic.  I’ve been finding it a struggle to get out of bed and begin my day.  My moods have been generally quite low.  I have been more emotionally reactive than usual.  My stamina and fitness levels have been steadily decreasing.  I have been experiencing tension between my shoulder blades in my upper back (which I believe could be connected to liver/gall bladder distress).

Happy birthday to me!

Filed under: raw vegan — health @ 11:23 am

Yesterday was my 32nd birthday. I’d had big ideas for a huge birthday bash, but when the time came, I wasn’t feeling terribly social. It was a pleasant enough day though. I have no complaints.
The yoga studio I go to gives its clients a free class on their birthday, so I started my day out right with power yoga.
I made the most delicious potato salad ever and the most beautiful birthday cake ever. Although by the time I finished making the cake, I had “tested” so many of the ingredients that I wasn’t able to eat any. It made for a great chocolaty breakfast this morning.

I’ve started checking my website stats more often? Why? I’m curious to see what brings users to my website. I’ve also been thinking of added content based on some of the search strings. I’ll be trying to post more smoothie recipes on a weekly basis. I receive a lot of hits for that.
