Day 1:

Filed under: raw vegan — health @ 7:23 pm

I woke up and had my last cooked food for a while. Margo and I have decided to continue to drink mate throughout Raw Week. The breakfast consisted of an egg on a whole-wheat tortilla, Cholula, and a handful of Robin Eggs, those lovely Easter candies that we all hate to love. Rupert asked me if I thought that I would be able to make some Rawbin Eggs. What a knee slapper, I know. Margo messaged me that her last meal was a “Rupertsize bowl of Peanut butter Bumpers and MILK”. Around mid-afternoon, I was so hungry that I went to the grocery store, bought some ingredients for Vietnamese Cole Slaw, a couple of Raw Vegan Bars, and a loaf of Hemp Bread, just in case I needed “an out”. I decided that I couldn’t be disingenuous to my Raw Week partner Margo by secretly eating the flourless, sprouted-grained bread. Instead, I quickly unwrapped a Vegan Bar and fought off the temptation for previously approved healthy foods. It is now the evening, and I feel satisfied, having had 1/2 of vegan bar, a large bowl of ’slaw, and 1/2 of an avocado. Tonight’s menu: Rawvioli. Yum!

Sickly

Filed under: raw vegan — health @ 3:23 pm

Okay so I’ve been at home in the bed for 3 days. I had been feeling like I was coming down with something and I guess that plane ride to Cali put me over the edge. I was sick the entire weekend. Even still, I had an awesome time and the girls and I have vowed to do this once per year. 2 options for next year are either a cruise, or the breast cancer 3 day. L’s mom died from breast cancer and I know she’s always wanted to do that 3 day. I’d love to do it for her mom - I never met her but if she’s anything like L, I’m sure I’d love her too.

Gluten Free Passover Recipe Roundup 2007

Filed under: raw vegan — health @ 12:22 pm

Hello everybody. By request, I have rounded up a diverse array of gluten-free Passover recipes from all over the internet. As you can see from this collection, it is definitely possible to have a delicious and kosher seder free from gluten! None of these recipe include gluten-containing grains (wheat, most oats, rye, barley, kamut, spelt, triticale and their derivatives) and most are also considered non-gebrokts. I’ve organized this list into categories of foods commonly eaten during the Passover week, especially during the seder. I hope this will help give you some ideas of foods to prepare next week. Feel free to post additional links in the comments!

Better living through chemistry…

Filed under: raw vegan — health @ 11:23 am

Okay, so I’m more convinced now than ever that psych meds are not necessarily evil.
I, being of alternative mind, tend to poo-poo anything that would alter your mind or personality.  Who me?  The former Contessa of Wine (or Whine..both apply)?  Yes, despite my obvious hipocrisy on the above statement, I firmly held to the ideal that you could heal your own body, heal your mind, be the best you can be simply by how you lived…what you eat, drink and whether or not you move your lazy butt.

India 2007

Filed under: raw vegan — health @ 4:23 am

We totally forgot we needed them. When I asked around, some of my Indian brethren said - ‘dude, you totally need that stuff. Plus, you should have started taking it 2 weeks ago!’ Then there’s the hippie camp which told me, ‘bro, don’t need’em … too pricey. But get some immodium AD instead.’ Huh??

Well, I think we may have to con somebody into hooking it up with the pills. Now, to prevent illness, we’ve pretty much resolved to drinking only bottled botter and beer (preferably more beer than not). Ah yes, and let’s not forget that everything has to be cooked (I bet my raw vegan organic friends out there are falling out of their chairs).
